The building is designed as a pair of interlinked yet distinct volumes: a spa and a sauna, each with its own architectural identity.
The spa volume is a clear, rational container designed for longevity. Its simple rectangular plan allows the internal layout to adapt over the building’s lifecycle. Clad in wood shingles, this "ark" feels private and enclosed from the back, yet opens up to the lake with expansive glass walls, terraces, and an outdoor pool. Its façades reference timeless northern typologies, creating a volume that feels both familiar and elusive — a shifting image that changes with every viewpoint.
The sauna wing is placed on the narrow footprint of former demolished structures, reusing the already disturbed part of the site. The wing is conceived as a dramatically elongated traditional sauna barn. It features steam rooms and a central lounge designed as a glazed "winter garden" that dissolves the boundary between inside and out. The steps of the outdoor terrace continue right through the glass, forming a tiered interior landscape. Between the two buildings, a secluded terrace with hot tubs and relaxation areas is inserted, with preserved trees growing directly through the deck.
Here, architecture and climate are treated as a continuous field. Every function spills outward, erasing the threshold between interior and exterior.
